For the first time in “American Idol” history, the final five are females. This unique moment in “Idol” history is bolstered by another situation. The judge’s save is still in play and if it is not used by this week, then it is thrown out. What will happen if the save is not used this week? Precedent breaking situations will unfold before our eyes on this week’s “American Idol.”
The musical selections will center on the songs sung by divas and music from the year each contestant was born. Candice and Amber have decided to pay homage to one of the judges by each performing a song from the library of Mariah Carey. Angela will perform a Beyonce classic called “Halo.” Janelle and Kree have opted to ratchet up the suspense by keep their choices under wraps for the time being.
The second theme incorporates songs that were performed in the year you were born. Kree shows some of her cards by announcing that she will tackle The Black Crows classic “She Talks to Angels.” Candice will perform a song from beloved and former “American Idol” judge Paula Abdul. Amber will handle the often-covered song, “What Are You Doing For The Rest Of My Life?” Angela and Janelle have kept their selections in this category unannounced for the time being.
The use of basic math has added suspense to this week’s episodes. FOX has “American Idol” scheduled for 8 P.M. for five more weeks. The save must be used by this week or it is unavailable for the rest of the competition. Will the judges be forced to use a save on a contender they think is unworthy? How will FOX handle the extra week if it is not used this week? Additional intrigue is on the horizon for this week’s episodes.
The judge’s interactions will be of special interest after the prolonged comments from Mariah Carey on past episodes. Ms. Carey’s time for judges appraisals have nearly doubled every other judges in length of time. The contortions and other facial tics by Nicki Minaj during Mariah’s diatribes add to the speculation of past confrontations between the two. Personal drama, spectacular vocals and the mystery of the “save” highlight this weeks “American Idol.”
